Everything you need to know

The EMC Silicon Cup will be held at Cowes Yacht Haven on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th Sep 2015. The regatta will again see two days of top class racing in the Solent, and a great themed fancy dress Gala Dinner, which will be held on Thursday evening in Cowes Yacht Haven Events Centre.

Why take part?

Two days of yacht racing offer formidable opportunities for networking, team-building, and cultivating business relationships. Participants are likely to remember for the rest of their lives how they crewed a racing yacht. Imagine the branding kudos of sailing a yacht emblazoned with your organisation's logo past your rivals and potential customers. A regatta is the most effective team building event there is. People arrive as a group of individuals and leave as a tight knit group. The professional skippers will allocate tasks to motivate the crew into working as a unit. The adrenalin and excitement of the racing does the rest!

Who is eligible to take part?

It is organised by and for the IT industry. That includes not only the vendors, but also IT departments, retailers, manufacturers, importers, finance companies, law firms, logistics and other suppliers to the sector.

I know nothing about sailing but would like to enter a team?

That's no problem at all. If you would like help with your entry, please contact Lorna Archer of Britannia Corporate Events lorna@britanniaevents.co.uk or call on 023 8045 8900 or 07885 454 969. She can assist in organising the right boat, pro crew, and entire event.

How do I enter?

There are lots of different ways to participate in the regatta, from entering your own boat, or privately chartered yacht, to chartering in a yacht and professional crew for you and your team. No previous sailing experience is necessary and we can provide a suitable package to meet your team's requirements.

How good do crews have to be?

The emphasis is on fun and safety. Whilst some of the yachts will be competing quite seriously, other yachts enjoy simply taking part - although the competitive instincts tend not to be to far below the surface in the IT industry! There will be a qualified skipper on all boats, the rest of the crew can be a mixture of skill levels. No previous sailing experience is necessary to take part in the regatta.

Can I enter my own boat?

Absolutely! Lots of companies who either own or have the use of private yachts, enter the event. To enter your own boat, simply contact Lorna Archer at Britannia (lorna@britanniaevents.co.uk / 02380 458 900 / 07885 454 969) and she will be able to send you the correct entry form to complete.
